Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Gait — a behavioral metadata scoring platform for Discord. By installing the Gait bot or using the Gait API, you agree to these Terms.

01 Acceptance of Terms

By installing the Gait bot in a Discord server, accessing the Gait API, or otherwise using the Gait platform ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not install the bot, access the API, or use the Service in any way.

02 Description of Service

Gait is a human authenticity scoring platform. It collects behavioral metadata — timing patterns, interaction cadence, account characteristics — from Discord servers where the bot is installed, and produces probabilistic scores indicating the likelihood that a given account is operated by a real human versus an automated system.

Gait does not collect, store, or process the content of any Discord message. It collects only the metadata described in the Privacy Policy.

Scores are advisory only. They represent a statistical estimate, not a definitive determination. No automated action is taken against any user by Gait itself.

03 Eligibility

To use Gait as a guild administrator, you must:

Be 13 years of age or older (or the minimum age required by Discord's Terms of Service in your jurisdiction)
Have the "Manage Server" permission in the Discord server where you install the bot
Comply with Discord's Terms of Service and Developer Terms of Service
Have the authority to consent to data collection on behalf of the server's members under applicable law

04 Guild Administrator Responsibilities

When you install Gait in a Discord server, you become the data controller for the behavioral metadata collected from that server's members, and Gait acts as a data processor on your behalf. As a data controller, you are responsible for:

Ensuring that your use of Gait complies with applicable privacy laws in your jurisdiction (including GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations)
Informing your server members that behavioral metadata is collected and scored by Gait
Responding to data access, erasure, or portability requests from your server members by using the data rights API or contacting Gait directly
Using scores and alerts responsibly — scores are probabilistic estimates and should not be the sole basis for banning, kicking, or otherwise penalizing a user
Configuring alert thresholds and action modes appropriately for your community

IMPORTANT You must not use Gait scores to make fully automated consequential decisions about individuals without human review, particularly in jurisdictions where such automated decision-making is restricted (e.g., GDPR Article 22).

05 Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

Discriminate against individuals based on protected characteristics (race, religion, gender, nationality, disability, etc.)
Harass, stalk, or target specific individuals beyond legitimate community moderation
Attempt to reverse-engineer, de-anonymize, or re-identify hashed user identifiers (GIIDs)
Probe or attack the Gait infrastructure, API, or databases
Circumvent rate limits, authentication, or access controls
Resell, sublicense, or expose Gait API access to third parties without prior written consent
Use the Service in violation of Discord's Terms of Service or Developer Terms of Service
Use scores as the exclusive automated basis for consequential user-affecting decisions

Gait reserves the right to suspend or revoke API access for violations of this section without prior notice.

06 Data Collection and Privacy

The collection, storage, anonymization, and retention of data by Gait is governed by the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.

You acknowledge that Gait aggregates behavioral signals across multiple Discord servers. A user who is a member of multiple Gait-monitored servers will have their signals from all those servers combined into a single scoring profile.

When you remove the Gait bot from your server, Gait will immediately purge all behavioral data, feature vectors, alerts, and configuration associated with your server's platform instance.

07 API Access and API Keys

Access to the Gait API is granted via API keys issued to guild administrators. Each API key is scoped to a single Discord guild (platform instance).

API keys must be kept confidential. Do not commit them to public repositories or expose them in client-side code.
You are responsible for all activity performed using your API key.
If you believe your API key has been compromised, contact Gait immediately to have it revoked and replaced.
Gait reserves the right to rate-limit or revoke API access without notice if usage patterns suggest abuse or excessive load.

08 Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Gait does not warrant that scores are accurate, that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any particular account will be correctly classified.

Scores are probabilistic estimates based on behavioral metadata. They may be wrong. A low score does not confirm that an account is automated; a high score does not confirm that an account is human. Guild administrators are solely responsible for any moderation actions taken on the basis of Gait scores.

09 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Gait and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, or damages arising from moderation actions taken on the basis of Gait scores, even if Gait has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In no event shall Gait's total liability to you for all claims arising under these Terms exceed the greater of (a) the amounts paid by you to Gait in the twelve months preceding the claim or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).

10 Termination

You may terminate your use of the Service at any time by removing the Gait bot from your server and ceasing to use the API. Upon removal, Gait will purge all server-specific data as described in Section 6.

Gait may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Termination does not affect data retention obligations already in effect under the Privacy Policy.

11 Changes to Terms

Gait may update these Terms at any time. When changes are made, the effective date at the top of this document will be updated. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, Gait will endeavour to provide advance notice through the Discord bot or direct communication to registered guild administrators where practicable.
